Our Mission

We believe that childhood is enriched through meaningful connections with nature. Our mission is to nurture curious, confident, and compassionate children through immersive outdoor experiences that deepen their relationship with the natural world, themselves, and their community.

Our Vision

We envision children who grow up with a profound sense of wonder about the natural environment, hands-on understanding of ecological systems, and the foundation to become thoughtful, resilient stewards of the earth. Through our nature-based programs, we support families in raising children who are comfortable outdoors, connected to their food sources, and confident in natural settings.

Our Approach

Our enrichment programs integrate:

  • Hands-on exploration in farm and forest environments

  • Ecological awareness and environmental connection

  • Social-emotional growth through mixed-age interaction

  • Experiential, place-based activities

  • Small group sizes ensuring personalized attention

Students at Plucky Palomino learn by doing—tending

gardens, caring for animals, exploring forest ecosystems, and

developing practical skills that connect them intimately with

the rhythms of nature.

Program Structure:

As an outdoor nature-based school, we operate as a seasonal recreational and educational program under Washington state exemptions for programs engaged primarily in outdoor educational activities. We have chosen not to pursue licensed child care facility status, as our programs are designed as enrichment education rather than traditional childcare. Our mixed-age learning environments foster natural social development and peer mentoring that mirrors real-world interactions.

Staff & Safety:

We are fully insured and set high standards for our teaching team, requiring background checks and first aid certification of our current school program leaders and assistants. All instructors are required to follow our comprehensive program safety protocols designed specifically for our outdoor educational environment.

Program Fit & Philosophy

Our nature-based programs emphasize outdoor learning, independence, environmental stewardship, and mixed-age social interaction. Children participate in hands-on farm activities, nature exploration, and collaborative learning experiences. We encourage families to carefully consider whether our outdoor, mixed-age educational approach aligns with their child's developmental needs, comfort level with nature-based activities, and ability to thrive in less structured learning environments before enrolling.

We offer drop-in options for many of our programs, allowing parents to trial our programs and ensure our educational approach is a good fit for their child before committing to a full session.
